Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) & Bounce Back (BB) Combined Training

Participants will be trained to be CBITS and Bounce Back Providers

  • This combined training opportunity is meant for mental health clinicians/practitioners who want to be trained in and have the capacity to deliver CBITS with students in grades 5-12 and Bounce Back with elementary age students. Participants should have a familiarity with childhood trauma, group therapy & cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) is a skill-based, group intervention that is aimed at relieving symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, and general anxiety among children exposed to trauma. Children are provided with normalizing education about common reactions to stress and trauma and learn skills such as relaxation, how to challenge and replace upsetting thoughts, and social problem solving. Children also work on processing traumatic memories and grief in both individual and group settings. The program consists of ten, 1-hour group sessions (6-8 children) usually conducted once a week in a school or mental health clinic setting.
  • Bounce Back is a skill-based, group intervention that is aimed at relieving symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression among elementary aged (K-5th grade) children exposed to trauma. Children are provided with normalizing education about common reactions to stress and trauma and learn skills such as feelings identification, relaxation, helpful thinking, scheduling positive activities, building social support, and problem solving. Children also work on processing traumatic memories and grief in individual sessions with their group leader. The program consists of ten, 1-hour group sessions (4-6 children) usually conducted once a week in a school setting, 2-3 individual trauma narrative sessions, and a parent education session.
