According to the World Health Organization, the definition of mental wellness is living in a state of well-being in which people:

When you work in the kid-building world...this is a tall order to maintain! In this interactive, fun-filled talk, Julia Cook identifies the key ingredients of mental wellness. She will also offer effective strategies for building and maintaining well-being. Enjoy listening as you grow STRONGER TOGETHER! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry... but most important you will walk away with tools you can use for a lifetime of healthy!
Tuesday Keynote Presentation: "The Year in Review: What Every School Social Worker Needs to Know About Recent Court Decisions"
Laura Tubbs Booth, B.S.
In this session we will begin with a review of the rules regarding the sharing of student information throughout Minnesota and the 8th District Court Circuit. We will discuss student privacy, data collection and discuss the law regarding these important components of school social work. Finally, we will take our knowledge and apply it by working through a hypothetical situation taken from a recent case to apply our learning. Through this session, our legal expert will highlight the delicate balance school social workers must maintain between confidentiality and legal responsibilities, stressing the importance of following protocols and seeking legal counsel when in doubt.

School Social Workers prioritize essential responsibilities such as advocating for students' social-emotional well-being and building strong partnerships between home, school, and community. School Social Workers need tools to understand outside mental health resources available including higher levels of mental health support, to provide psycho education and opportunities to families in ethical ways, and to support students who are returning from outside mental health services.
Join as Megan Lagasse (previous SSW and Region Rep with MSSWA) in her current position as a Student Support Personnel Specialist who is proficient in educational leadership, program development, training, consultation, and resources to increase the capacity and subject matter expertise around culturally responsive practices for student support personnel, school leaders, and educators throughout the state.
(This training is intended to accommodate all levels of school age children).
